“I believe passionately in the power of innovation to keep our economy and our institutions alive and well. But I also believe in the value of a misunderstood concept: ossification. And here I mean the older, medical meaning of the word: the transformation from soft tissue into the bone upon which all is built, rather than the more recent derivative meaning of becoming inflexible, rigid and formulaic.
